Seminar: Dr. Sophie Comper-Warner
Dr. Sophie Comper-Warner is a biogeochemist working across aquatic landscapes, linking a continuum of ecosystems from streams and rivers to coastal wetlands and estuaries. Sophie's motivation is to understand the major drivers of carbon and nitrogen cycling focusing on associated greenhouse gas emissions from these systems as they relate to and continue to be affected by global changes in land-use and climate. Sophie is also interested in micro- and nanoplastics and their interactions with existing biogeochemical cycles, focusing on their fate, transport and effects on ecosystem function such as rates of denitrification and greenhouse gas fluxes. The ultimate goal of the research is to contribute to understanding to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and water pollution and promote sustainable development. Current projects are taking place in the U.K., the U.S., China, Vietnam, Ghana and Peru.
