Crabs must take off their shell in order to grow!
Blue crabs must take their shell off 27-29 times before becoming an adult!
Crab eyes make a lot of hormones! The lab of Dr. Sook Chung studies many of these hormones and the ways that they regulate events in the life cycle of crabs. Some of these events are growth, molting (removing the shell), stress responses, and reproduction. Through this work, her lab hopes to improve the wild stock of crabs like the blue crab.
