Lab Technician- UMBC-IMET Tracy Laboratory

The Lab Technician will help manage field and laboratory research on Chesapeake Bay organisms and habitats as part of the Tracy Lab at the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology. Research in the Tracy Lab focuses on the health of marine ecosystems in a changing ocean, including the ecology and evolution of host-parasite interactions and the microbiome, spatial ecology, fisheries management, and restoration (https://allisonmtracy.weebly.com/). The Lab Technician will apply a variety of tools for studying these themes. The successful applicant will focus primarily on processing samples, conducting laboratory analyses, managing/ analyzing data, and maintaining an organized and well-functioning lab. Field sampling in Chesapeake Bay will be intermittent. There will also be opportunities for stakeholder engagement, communication, and professional training. Remote work is possible at low frequency (10% or less) and will fluctuate seasonally.

This is a one-year term appointment with the possibility of renewal on an annual basis based on performance and funding.
 
Minimum requirements are a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and experience in microbiology and molecular biology.
 
Qualifications
o Bachelor's degree in related field (e.g., ecology, aquatic biology, molecular biology, microbiology, marine science); if not immediately relevant, please explain the connections in the cover letter
o Hands-on experience working independently with molecular biology & microbiology techniques
o Active driver’s license
