Students at the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology work on marine and environmental research and thereby help to create technologies designed to foster the protection and restoration of coastal marine systems and their watersheds, sustainable use of their resources and improvement of human health. Our graduate students pursue M.S. and Ph.D. degrees through an immersive educational experience in partnership with the University System of Maryland.
IMET offers an undergraduate internship and two partner graduate programs:
IMET SUMMER INTERNSHIP
Each summer, the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology at the Inner Harbor offers students the opportunity to conduct a nine-week project research in marine sciences applying molecular tools.
Sustainable Aquaculture Lab Course
UMBC will offer this course in the Summer 2023 program. Students will be exposed to the theory and practice of aquaculture. This course offers hands-on experience in fish/shellfish biology, aquaculture microbiology, and marine biotechnology.
MARINE ESTUARINE ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES GRADUATE PROGRAM (MEES)
The MEES Graduate Program is managed by the University of Maryland, College Park and offers both M.S. and Ph.D. programs. Interested students may apply via the MEES website.
GRADUATE PROGRAM IN LIFE SCIENCES (GPILS)
GPILS is managed by the University of Maryland, Baltimore and offers both M.S. and Ph.D. programs. Interested students may apply via the GPILS website.
JAMES ALBRECHT GRADUATE STUDENT FELLOWSHIP
In 2019, IMET launched the “James Albrecht Graduate Student Fellowship” with funds donated by our friend Dr. Jim Albrecht. This fellowship will fund the first year of study for a Masters or Ph.D. student for the next five years.
IMET partners with other Baltimore organizations to expand our educational impact. Read about our partnerships with Building STEPS, the Ingenuity Project, and the Baltimore Under Ground Science Space.
