IMET Named 2019 Baltimore Top Workplace

December 16, 2019

The Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET) has been awarded a Top Workplaces 2019 honor by  The Baltimore Sun, one of only 135 companies in the region made this year’s list. The award is based on the feedback from a survey of students, faculty and staff.

“The work that we are doing at IMET is very important. We have close to 100 people working together on some of the key challenges related to climate change, food, energy, environmental sustainability, and human health,” said Russell Hill, director of the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology. “I’m personally delighted by this recognition for all of us.”

Located at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology is a strategic alliance involving scientists at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, the University of Maryland Baltimore and the University of Maryland Baltimore County.

Scientists are engaged in cutting-edge research in microbiology, molecular biology and biotechnology, using marine organisms to develop new drug therapies, alternative energy and innovations to improve public health. IMET contributes to sustainable marine aquaculture and fisheries in the Chesapeake Bay and marine ecosystems and fosters early stage companies and industry partnerships, contributing to economic development in Maryland.
